GODFREY – When Rod and Jane Connell first opened a Montessori school 30 years ago, they could hardly imagine they would one day be teaching the children of the children who first enrolled. Over the years, the school has become a true family affair. The Connells’ daughter Salem Newman teaches nutrition classes and handles much […]

I “shopped around” before deciding on a school for my six-year-old son, Michael. The day I visited the Montessori School, the students had just returned from the creek behind the campus. The foyer was busy and noisy as they wiped off their shoes and hurried to their desks with the data they had collected for a biology lesson. In the schools I visited before that day, I had not seen such a level of student engagement. I knew I had found the place where my son would experience the excitement of learning.
Michael attended the Montessori School from grades 1 through 6. When it was time to transfer to a middle school, I again visited several schools. On those visits, I carried with me the results of the standardized tests, which the Montessori School administers at the appropriate grade levels. Every enrollment officer looked at Michael’s scores and said, “We’d love to have your son here.”
My son went on to have a very successful middle and high school experience, and as a result, he was admitted to a competitive college. He graduated cum laude, and at age of 24 works at a law firm in Manhattan. He has supported himself since graduating from college.
It might be going too far to say that every success is the result of his Montessori education, but I am an educator, and I took very seriously the selection of a primary school. The early grades make the foundation for all that follows, and the quality of teacher-student interaction is critical. Through the interaction with his teachers and the community of students and families at Montessori, my son found out that learning is a reward for its own sake, and that lesson has taken him far. I am extremely grateful for his experience at the Montessori School.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Montessori Children’s House! My children attended through 6th grade. They had fun while learning and looked forward to going to school each day. They were given the opportunity to excel in their favorite subjects. They were encouraged to be creative and taught how to use their time wisely. My daughter wrote the Christmas play one year. When they left to attend public school in 7th grade they were well prepared.

I couldn’t imagine myself settling down so quickly in the “Masterstudy” Educational Center without the knowledge and experience that I gained through the Foundation Program

When I commenced the programme, I gave myself one year to challenge my thinking, change my outlook and choose my next step. This could not have been achieved without the remarkable opportunities and strategic tools afforded to me.
